Whistleblower's Reward

If you have knowledge about fraud against the Government, you may be eligible to file a qui tam action and to recieve a portion of the amount recovered by the Government. If the Government intervenes in an action filed by a whistleblower, the whistleblower will normally be awarded between 15% and 25% of the full amount of the Government's recovery, including treble damages and penalties of $5,500-$11,000 per false claim. The percentage generally depends on the contribution made to the case by the whistleblower.

If the Government elects not to intervene in the case, and the whistleblower pursues the case on behalf of the Government, the whistleblower will normally receive between 25% and 30% of the Government's recovery.

Notably, these percentages apply to the full amount recovered, regardless of whether the case is settled or taken to trial. If the relator planned and initiated the fraud, however, the share may be reduced.
